WHISKEY DESTINATIONS

The Council of Whiskey Masters is announcing an annual review program that assesses the greatest whiskey tasting venues on earth, starting with a comprehensive review of whiskey destinations located in the United States.

Introducing the WHISKEY DESTINATION awards:

“As the world of whisk(e)y has developed strongly over the last years, discriminating consumers and professionals are seeking exceptional experiences to enjoy the finest spirit.

Similar to restaurants earning the Wine Spectator award for an outstanding wine program, or receiving a Michelin star for excellent cuisine, the WHISKEY DESTINATION award represents the global quality seal for the leading locations where whiskey can be enjoyed most memorably.”

Awards are given at three levels, considering (1) extensive whiskey lists, (2) commitment to staff education, and (3) exceptional tasting experience. Whiskey bars, lounges as well as restaurants can earn the “Whiskey Destination” award, therefore, if they fall into one of 3 categories:

1-Dram Award:
Whiskey Destinations with an extensive whiskey list of selections by the glass. An extensive list includes at least 50 different labels. The focus may be either on Scotch or Bourbon, but can also be global in nature.

2-Dram Award:
Whiskey Destinations with an extensive list, plus a clear commitment to staff education, best demonstrated through certified service teams. At least 2 service staff members should be enrolled or certified with The Council of Whiskey Masters’ CSP or CBP program, or WSET’s spirit program, or SoWE’s CSS program at all times.

3-Dram Award:
Whiskey Destinations with an extensive list, commitment to education, and the focus on an exceptional tasting experience, provided through tasting flights, expert-guided tasting options, as well as a spectacular on-site ambiance.
